soup consumption increased. In 2011, soup sales were less affected by the Tohoku earthquake and the subsequent shut down of the nuclear power plant. Households saved electricity by turning off air conditioners while refrigeration appliances were used continuously to keep perishable food, including frozen and chilled soups.
